History

Stryn Møbelindustri AS was established in 1939. Our founders were skilled, hard-working craftsmen. When starting the company, they produced furniture diverse in both design and character.

Between 1950 and 1970, our company was one of the largest producers of coffee tables in Norway. At the end of this period, Stryn Møbelindustri AS made about 20000 tables annually (quite a large number for such a small country as Norway). In the 1980's the company delivered furniture parts to many large firms within the public sector. It also had a significant share in the hotel decorating market.

In 1989 Stryn Møbelindustri AS had a shift of ownership. After evaluating markets and products, the new owners came up with a different business strategy. It was based on the idea that the company should design and develop furniture with its own distinctive brand. We committed ourselves to making high-quality furniture reflecting Norwegian tradition for craftsmanship and furniture.

In 1991, Stryn Møbelindusti AS introduced Rosmersholm. This was the first collection based on the new concept. Today, we still value the ground ideas carved out at that time. The company has preserved its initial approach while redeveloping some aspects of it. What we are especially proud of is the reputation we have obtained within the Norwegian furniture market. A possible explanation for this might be that we appreciate the importance of craftsmanship. That is why we always have apprentices working with us. In this way, Stryn Møbelindustri AS is playing an active part in training future craftsmen.

Vision

Upon visiting our web page, you will notice several quotations collected from the works of Norwegian writers Henrik Ibsen and Knut Hamsun. Furthermore, our furniture are named after the two authors along with characters from their world renowned writings. The fact that we find inspiration in the works of Ibsen and Hamsun is not a coincidence. In fact, we have something in common; Stryn Møbelindustri AS also has great visions.

Our vision is based on the idea that furniture should be regarded as more than just something to sit on or store items in. During time, humans' needs and interests have included culture, art and architecture - it is something which we want to be a part of and surrounded by. In today's society, trends are shifting rapidly, forcing us to continuosly adapt to the unknown. Stryn Møbelindustri AS recognizes this by producing timeless pieces of furniture rooted in tradition. Our wish is that when surrounded by our furniture, you will be able to create a distance from the hectic everyday life that characterizes today's society.

This is the reason why we will continue to make our furniture according to the values above. We do not mass produce. Instead, production is initiated only after you have placed your order with us. Because of this, we are able to make the adjustments that you may want for your furniture.
